Conspiracy: “Fourth in a series about a lot of boring kingdoms doing made-up political things. Did I mention lots of characters have the same names, AND multiple names, AND/OR the same name as the country they’re from? . . . I do not tend to read books with words like ‘magus’ or ‘coronation’.”
Sorry Jonathan – I know you love Conspiracy, but this description is hilarious.
It got a chuckle from me, too. We knew we were in for this kind reaction which is why Nina was so hesitant about including the book at first. I disagree with Amy’s assertion that a Newbery book must stand alone . . .
Best line, though, was about KEEPER . . . Characters built like 8-tier wedding cakes: charm, precision, depth, heft and the end product is super sweet.
This was wonderful, but Amy is sadly misguided about both the awesomeness of books with magi and coronations, and the TOTALLY non-boring nature of Conspiracy in particular. Real dorks appreciate this. :-/
Delightful…the criteria may allow us to consider design etc only if it detracts, but clearly we can use it all when thinking about the contenders. Methinks though that Amy clearly needs a map for COK:)
Validation! I am not alone in nerddom with my obsession of ALA in January.
I also loved the synopsis. (Is there a plural for that word?)
