It All Starts December 28th: The Heavy Medal Mock Newbery Book Discussion Schedule
Our Committee is ready; the book list is final; and our Zoom discussion is scheduled. Here’s what’s in store for the Heavy Medal Mock Newbery Award:
The Heavy Medal Award Committee
The HMAC is made up of dedicated volunteers who have committed to reading all titles on the Heavy Medal Book List (HMBL) and discussing them online. I’ll introduced the HMAC members here early next week.
Online Mock Newbery Book Discussion
The HMAC will discuss all fifteen titles on the HMBL over a three week period. They’ll introduce one new book per day (except holidays and Sundays). Readers who are not on the HMAC are welcome to comment as well. The schedule of dates and titles is below.

Live Zoom Discussion
After the discussion of the fifteen books, the HMAC will select 5-6 Mock Newbery Finalists. School Library Journal will host a Live Zoom Discussion where the HMAC will argue the merits of those final titles, culminating in a weighted ballot which will determine our Mock Award winner. If you’re not on the HMAC, you can view the live discussion, share questions and comments, and take part in live polls. Free registration forms will be available soon on SLJ.com and here on this blog.
