Mock Newbery Suggestions Round 4
After three months of reader suggestions, our current list of Mock Newbery titles stands at 36 books. During our June suggestion period, which stays open through Saturday, June 8th, readers are invited to continue to built that list by suggesting up to five Newbery-eligible titles. You can add your support for books that are already on the list and/or recommend new titles that haven’t been suggested. We just need titles and authors, but you’re welcome to add a comment or two if you choose. Please hold off on suggesting any titles that haven’t been actually published yet…if you’ve read an advance copy that you love, save it for a future month. More details about our suggestion process can be found in this post from earlier this year. We’ll continue to call for new suggestions at the start of every month, then jump into discussion-mode in September.

I only have one to recommend as I haven’t read as much as I’d have liked to. The Night War by Kimberly Brubaker Bradley. I thought this was a solid historical fiction book. I think some of her other books are better but I still really enjoyed this one. It was also nice to learn some things from history I wasn’t familiar with.

This suggestion didn’t come through right originally, but it’s from Jean Holmblad (thanks Jean!):
One more vote for “Black Girl You Are Atlas” and “Leafy Landmarks”. Please add “Isabel in Bloom” by Mae Respicio. The latter is a gorgeous novel in verse, utilizing a wide variety of poetry forms.
