Wednesday Roundups are Back… plan accordingly
Hello friends, responding to surveys of years past (you asked, we listened). We’re providing advanced notice of the genres we are planning to discuss so you can get reading. Thanks to whoever suggested this, because I’ve never been much of a planner.. and now I realize I need to prioritize my nonfiction reading this week…
As always, we will have nominations and results in October, November, and December. Then announce our Early 6 in the beginning of November and our complete Heavy Medal Book List in mid-December. And this year we will continue last years Wednesday Roundups (with a slight twist).

On most Wednesdays, we will have Wednesday round-ups where Steven and I feature different topics and focus on books that were suggested or nominated (or other contenders). We’ll look at what’s been suggested, our personal frontrunners, general thoughts, and titles we still want to read.
New this year, we’ll also highlight strengths based on past winners in these categories. This is where things get tricky, because we don’t want to compare this years titles to past winners (it’s a strict rule in the official Newbery manual not to). We are just using them as a model to see what makes a strong contender.
We categorized all the already-suggested books for us, so you can see what titles will be talked about on what day (and don’t be limited by this list, please discuss other Newbery eligible titles too). This is a good time to look at titles you suggested and think about if they are actually Newbery worthy.
Here’s the schedule and titles and happy reading (and discussing!) As always, just comment with any questions.

I’m not even bothering with a list here, but it’s definitely a genre worth discussing- the bread and butter of the Newbery and how did it even become that the Newbery was such a stereotypical middle grade fiction award? Hmm…
Also in honor of one survey closing today, I decided to throw another one your way because who doesn’t love a good survey?! This survey is just for fun.. highlighting Newbery genres and winners of years past. We will just leave this open for a while. #nopressure
Let’s get reading!
